International Vulture Awareness Day 2020
The 5th September marks an annual global celebration day for vultures, named; International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD), celebrated first Saturday of every September. Normally, in Botswana the celebration is done by engaging students to do plays, poetry, drama and songs on vultures to raise public knowledge and awareness. This year that will not happen due to Covid 19, however a range of radio and television interviews are arranged by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks and BirdLife Botswana.
International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD) is an annual awareness-raising campaign which aims to create awareness about vulture conservation as a whole, garner support among the public about the plight of vultures globally and highlight the work done by conservationists to protect these birds and their habitats. In Botswana this year’s campaign is themed “I want Botswana vultures ALIVE, Not DEAD”.
