Regular (monthly) guided walks that satisfy the diverse requirements of the members, are arranged. The walks cater for new birders, young would be birders, old would be birders, serious birders and social birders. They normally end with a social breakfast event in the bush, so bring chairs and breakfast items. Once a year BLB stages a 'little' Big Birding Day where teams have 10 hours (12 midnight to 10am) to count as many birds as they can.

Quarterly camps for members are arranged at selected locations to encourage member interaction. Directions are given for chosen locations and members have to be self-sufficient in terms of food, camping equipment, fuel and water. Bird lists are compiled after the camp.
An annual dinner is held for all BLB members and invited guests; normally an authority on some aspect of birding is invited to be the guest speaker.
