Message of Next Bird Walk by Harold Hester

Dear BLB member,
I am sending this early because we are going on holiday for a month and we are going to SA where internet is poor, water supplies are unreliable, roads are bad, but the place is super.
The next walk takes place on the Taung floodplain where you should see some unusual birds. This is not too far south of Gaborone and you probably won’t need a 4X4. Beginners are welcome and don’t forget to bring refreshments. Members will meet at 07:30 at Molapo Crossing on Sunday 3rd July for a prompt departure.
We have had much interest in the Doreen McColaugh MOGAKA WA TIKOLOGO Award. If you want to know more about it, please contact Puso at 3190540. Please make sure that your children, grandchildren, young adults and friends’ offspring are involved in this environmental awareness competition.
We are raising money towards printing two books, namely Doreen’s Activity Guide and a re-production of the Beginners Guide. To this end we are raffling 100 tickets for a set of six framed pictures of raptors at P50 per ticket. Dikabelo will be selling these tickets at her office and at the walk. Any donations towards the printing of these books would be welcome, in fact, very welcome. Thinking aloud, if you contributed P40 000 we would include your name in the title for the new-look Beginner’s Guide, which would be called, say, Kabelo Smith’s Common Birds of Botswana. Now there’s a thought for a wonderful legacy.
The next camp will take place over the weekend of 29 to 31st July when the weather should be warmer than at present. We will not be going to Sojwe Pan which is bone dry. Suggestions for an alternative venue are welcome.
Keep your eyes peeled for those elusive species.
Kind regards
Harold Hester
