Waterfowl Monitoring Programme
Water birds data is collected every January and July and the result are published in the BirdLife Botswana journal Babbler. The monitoring is done at every wetland in the country and the aim of the programme is to use the waterbirds species to conserve the wetlands. The species are used as indicators of the condition or the health of the wetland ecosystem.
Water bird monitoring requires information of water level, visit date, number of birds, size of the wetland, size of the area monitored, location, observer’s name, weather and threats.
